Life Reading
How did the book Crime and Punishment affect your life after reading it?
Some examples can be how your philosophies were changed, how you looked at the world, etc. Please be specific.
I read Crime and Punishment for a school book project and, at the time, I was already examining what I felt was human philosophy (my views have changed over the past two years) and psychology. This is a deeply psychological work. My opinions on the human psyche, pride, and environment's influence on actions really just led me into a different direction. I challenged my own assumptions that humans are basically good and only do bad when pressured by circumstances, though I began, after reading the novel, to question the accuracy of that sentiment. I formed a new theory on the differences in personalities.
Essentially, I was a little more receptive to reading Niche's Superman Complex afterwards because it was a sort of new reality, a facet of human nature, that I was able to see clearly instead of pass it off as an aberration.
See, I was kind of naive before reading Crime and Punishment, but Dostoyevsky was really a person who opened my eyes a little more to the darker graceless doings of people. In essence, it just made me more aware of the lows which humans are capable of being sunk or sinking themselves.
