What are the main points of the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection?
this is for a year nine science assignment and i have not been able to find any information at all on any websites. please help me!!!
Basically this:
As thing grow and replicate, their replication is not perfect. It is typically imperfect. Once it replicates, the new cell/species/item/whatever will have a small or possibly large mutation. This mutation may result in different eye color, loss of hair, immediate death, or something so small that it is unnoticeable.
When these series of mutations increase and grow as a function of time, this will either be helpful, hurtful, or completely neutral. If it is helpful, then these organisms will most likely survive to the next round of existence (life)...a.k.a they are 'selected' for survival due to increased fitness. If the mutations are hurtful, then the organisms will have a higher likelihood of death/getting eaten/not surviving extreme change/etc. Therefore, these organisms are 'selected against'.
